How it was made!

… a journey from your wedding day to family heirlooms

Step 1: A Conversation

My client reached out to me on social media and we started a dialog. We spoke about her wedding, her flowers, and her vision. We came to an agreement of what she would like to have made and a date to drop off her flowers. She sent me an e-transfer for the deposit and we were cooking with gas!

Step 2: The Drop Off

My client and her new husband dropped off her flowers at my studio and we got to meet and speak for a bit! Look at the pictures below to see how gorgeous her flowers were! Sometimes the MOH or MOB takes this task on.

Step 3: Preservation

To maintain the integrity of the flowers, I ensured no sap and other floral fluids were on the petals and leaves. I brake apart the bouquet and take note of most striking parts of the bouquet. I leave these items to air and breathe.

Step 3: Casting

Once the flowers were free of sap, dew, and moisture, I placed them in molds and submerged them in resin.
This is the trickiest part of the process! It can be dangerous and you can burn yourself, so I never recommend trying this on your own at home.

In the picture to the left, you can see petals, gold leaf, and pearls from the corsage suspended in the resin as it is curing.

Step 4: Personalization

Before select pieces are finalized, clients can request inscriptions or messages be added to their order. In the image to the right, I have the a name inscribed onto the bottom of a paperweight.

People can ask for a name, a saying, a quote… or even religious verses to be inscribed onto their orders.

Step 5: Wrapping it up!

This is a double-entendre! This is the part of the process where I cross all the t’s and dot all of the i’s to make sure each piece is perfect… and then I literally wrap the order up for pick up!

Once this is finished, the client is notified and we arrange a pick up.

Step 6: Pick-ups

The process is done! I turn the order over to the client. All drop-offs and pick-ups are 100% social distancing-friendly… so no hugs, high-fives, or handshakes!

With the wedding flowers I was given, I was able to make multiple sets of coasters, 3 jewellery holders with flip-lids, several paperweights, pendants, bracelets, and charms. The process should take no more than 3 weeks, but with Covid-19, the production times are slower.

A week or so after the final pick up, I reach out and ensure everything is still perfect and that the client is 100% happy.
